Practitioner:
    Glen Nowell, B.Mus., M.Sc, S-LP (C), Reg. CASLPO, OSLA, is a Speech-Language Pathologist with a primary interest in voice and voice disorders.  In 2004, he received the National Certification Exam Award for achieving the highest score on the 2004 Canadian Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists certification exam.  His initial interest in the field of Speech-Language Pathology and Voice Therapy stemmed from his singing training and vocal pedagogy education.  He was given a Nova Scotia Health Research Foundation Personal Award and a Canadian Associate of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists Student Research Grant to support his Master’s thesis entitled “Classical singing techniques and vocal health history of undergraduate voice majors at Canadian Universities.”  He received the Dalhousie University School of Human Communication Alumni Award for Academic and Clinical Excellence.

Glen has worked in a specialized Voice Clinic since 2003, both as a clinician and also as a voice consultant to other Speech-Language Pathologists in the region.  His background as a singer and singing teacher adds depth to the services Glen provides to his voice clients, particularly performers.

Glen has performed solo recitals, oratorio and opera roles and sang with chamber choirs and jazz bands. He is currently a member of Opera Ontario’s Chorus.

Glen is an active lecturer, conducting lectures and workshops on vocal health, vocal pedagogy, care of the professional voice and voice therapy for groups including Ear, Nose and Throat Grand Rounds for McMaster University, Voice Study Group of Ontario, Dalhousie University School of Music, Toronto Division School Board, Manitoba Conservatory of Music and Arts, Royal Conservatory of Music ‘Art of Teaching’ conference, etc.  He co-teaches the course “Healthy Vocalism: Anatomy and Physiology in the Singer’s Studio” at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto.
